Qualifying Life Events

If you do not enroll during the annual Open Enrollment or within 30 days from your date of hire, you cannot make any changes to your benefit elections unless you experience a Qualifying Life Event (QLE).

Supplemental life and AD&D will be subject to evidence of insurability if you apply for coverage after your initial eligibility period. It also applies for all amounts over the guarantee issue amount.

Examples of Qualifying Life Events include:

• Marriage, divorce, legal separation or annulment
• Birth, adoption, placement for adoption or legal guardianship of a child
• A change in your spouse’s employment or involuntary loss of health coverage
• Your dependent child no longer qualifies as an eligible dependent

Generally you only have 30 days to notify your employer that you’ve had a QLE. Please contact your local Human Resources department if you have had a QLE and want to make changes to your benefit elections.
